Who we are

Tuli Sauna and Plunge is a nature-based wellness experience rooted in Nordic  tradition and powered by fire, water, and community. Nestled on the banks of the  Sugar River in Paoli, Wisconsin, Tuli offers  sessions in a modern wood-fired sauna with large windows for ample views, followed by a revitalizing natural cold plunge.

Tuli (which means “fire” in Finnish) is on a mission: to spark a robust sauna culture in Southern Wisconsin where people gather regularly for community, restoration, and joy. Tuli is a place to slow down, breathe deep,  and reconnect with nature, yourself, and  others. Whether you come to find silence, connection, resilience, or recovery, Tuli  provides a welcoming space for all bodies and all seasons.

So come alone or with friends and family to Sweat. Soak. Smile :)

Hi! I'm Emily - the Founder of Tuli Sauna and Plunge.

I started Tuli because I love how sauna makes me feel - I leave with a sense of calm and joy and carry that feeling with me throughout the day. But the only saunas available were tucked away in gym locker rooms, and that wasn’t what I was looking for — I craved an authentic, outdoor sauna experience that connected me to nature and brought me together with others in the community through the changing seasons. I couldn't find this type of permanent sauna location in Madison, so I decided to create one!

Tuli is a space where people can slow down and reconnect — with themselves, with others, and with nature. Growing up on the shores of Lake Michigan, I’ve always felt at peace being by the water and outdoors in general, and I believe we all need more of that grounding in our daily lives. Coming from a science background, I was drawn to the proven health benefits of sauna and cold exposure, but what really inspired me was how these practices bring people together. Sauna is much more than the heat or the plunge—it’s about sharing a meaningful experience, building community, and creating space for reflection, resilience, and real connection.

My goal with Tuli is to spread the joy of sauna with members of the community and to create a culture where people meet regularly to sauna - because the many benefits of sauna are profound when practiced several times a week. I hope everyone who experiences Tuli leaves with a smile on their face and joy in their hearts.
